Kernow Pipes & Drums 2016 memories

Saturday 6th August
Wadebridge Carnival

Pipers:  Nigel, Alex, Miranda, Keith G, Tom G, David C, John C, Felicity, Donny

Drummers: Snare – Andrew, Eleanor, Tenor – Fred, Vic, Bass – Sue

Saturday was cloudy at times with sunshine and a cool breeze. The Band met at 17.00 hours in the Bowling Green car park for a warm-up. The dress code was Day dress without jackets as the air had turned humid. It was a good turn-out of nine pipers and five drummers. It was a long Carnival and it started on time from the Egloshayle Playing Field. Also taking part were the St Austell Silver Band, who led the Parade, Plymouth Pipes and Drums, Samba Bands, Majorettes and lavishly decorated lorries, Fairy Queens, and innumerable fancy dressers.

The procession route was the same as last year, along the main road to cross the old bridge and then the circular route before rejoining the main road again. The streets were packed to bursting point in places with families and visitors intent on enjoying the vibrant Carnival atmosphere, waving flags, streamers and balloons. There was much cheering and clapping as the Kernow Band passed by!

Tunes played during the Carnival include the following – Green Hills/Battles O’er, Cockney Jocks/Rainbow Country/Bluebells of Scotland, High Road to Gairloch/Murdo’s Wedding/The Bonnie Lass of Fyvie.

Once again, a lovely, lively and well organized Carnival with a good atmosphere and an appreciative crowd, with the Kernow Band performing to its usual high standard.
