Kernow Pipes & Drums 2011 memories

KERNOW PIPES AND DRUMS CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION AT TRELISSICK GARDENS, TRURO SATURDAY 10 DECEMBER  2011

It was a splendid occasion at Trelissick with the majority of the Kernow Band attending the celebration. After mulled wine on arrival the  time was pleasantly spent with pre dinner drinks, introductions and social chatter before dining.

The Master of Ceremonies, The Band Chairman, introduced the  singing group Du Hag Owr (Black and Gold) who hailed from Porthscatho. Their sea shanties were vastly entertaining, being funny, sad or serious in turn but aroused much hilarity in the audience when a volunteer was sought to assist in their singing. Carols and Sea Shanties were then sung by both audience and the Group before the Chairman made a short speech. The Musical Director said a few words welcoming the newest Band Member and he mentioned absent friends. Appreciation and thanks were given for the wonderful effort of the caterers and bar staff.

The Gay Gordons was the first of the country dances followed by The Dashing White Sergeant and Strip The Willow. The evening continued with the Pipers playing a medley starting with Last of the Great Whales, the Scotland the Brave Set, comprising Scotland The Brave, Rowan Tree, Wings, and Bonnie Galloway. Waters of Kylesku was played followed by The Skye Boat Song and Morag of Dunvegan.

The Pipers rested as dance music was played and some waltzed an hour or so on the dance floor. The evening’s celebrations culminated with the whole company singing Auld Lang Syne accompanied by the Pipers. 12 pm and we were homeward bound after a really enjoyable and entertaining evening with so many friends.
